DURHAM, N.C. – Duke track and field turned in an impressive all-around showing at the Duke Invitational, with the Blue Devil performances headlined by seven event wins, 18 podium finishes and a handful of top-five program marks.
The Blue Devil women spearheaded the charge with all seven victories, placing first in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 800 meters, 4x100m and 4x400m relays, long jump and pole vault.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Duke went 1-2 in the women's 100 behind strong races from sophomores Braelyn Baker and Maya Collins. Baker won the event with a time of 11.34, while Collins dashed 11.40 for second. The pair notched personal bests in the prelim to secure spots in the final as Collins hit the tape in a school-record time of 11.25 with Baker moving into a tie for No. 2 all-time in program lore with a mark of 11.32.
- The Blue Devil women's 4x100m relay turned in a season-best performance on the way to a first-place finish. The quartet of freshman Taylor Aska, junior Mia Edim, Collins and Baker stopped the clock at 43.88, smashing the 11-year-old meet record while slotting themselves third on the Duke charts.
- Senior Gianna Locci took first in the women's long jump after producing the best performance of her collegiate career. She flew out to a personal best of 6.25m (20-6.25 feet) to secure the victory, improving her No. 5 all-time program mark.
- Lauren Tolbert posted her fastest time of the season and claimed a tight win in the women's 800. The senior finished in 2:02.19, edging runner-up Sadie Engelhardt (2:02.31) of NC State.
- Baker secured her third event win of the weekend with the women's 200. The Carnation, Washington, standout dashed a personal best of 22.76, with her time unseating both the meet and five-year-old program record.
- Collins and Edim also turned in strong 200 races, dashing 23.24 and 23.34, respectively to complete the podium sweep.
- Duke capped its home meet with a first-place finish by the women's 4x400m relay, as the contingent of sophomore Amber Wimbish, Edim, rookie Arabella Wilson and Tolbert sprinted a season-best time of 3:33.84.
- The Blue Devils registered strong outings and top-two placements in the men's and women's pole vaults behind the efforts of sophomore TJ Rowan and junior Gemma Tutton. Tutton captured the win in the women's event and moved into a tie for second all-time at Duke with a clearance of 4.45m (14-7.25 feet). Rowan took second on a vault of 5.36m (17-7 feet) – No. 3 in program history.
- Senior Julia Jackson and junior Julia Magliaro earned second-place finishes in the women's 400 meter and javelin events, respectively. Magliaro came through with her clutch throw of 50.52m (165-9 feet) on the fifth attempt, while Jackson dashed 53.25.
- Junior Christian Toro picked up a runner-up showing in the men's hammer throw. Toro captured the second-place finish via a season-best throw of 66.51m (218-2 feet), obtaining the mark on his second attempt.
- Caroline Hood notched a huge personal best en route to taking second in the women's 5000-meter race. She clocked 16:18.77 for her third career top-five placement, with the sophomore slashing 31 seconds off her previous mark.
- Senior Matthew Prebola finished second in the men's javelin with a throw of 67.63m (221-10 feet), which came on his first attempt.
- Sophomore Andres Langston and graduate student Liam O'Hara each tallied personal bests to go 2-3 in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Langston finished in 50. 41 to improve his No. 2 all-time Duke mark. O'Hara jumped one spot up the leaderboard with the program's third-fastest time of 50.89.
- Junior Michael Scherk and the men's 4x100m relay also notched podium finishes for the Blue Devils. Scherk clocked 13.95 to take third in the men's 110-meter hurdles, while the Duke contingent of sophomore Tobias Williams, Langston, O'Hara and graduate student Quinton Godfrey powered through the line at 40.46.
- Graduate student John Fay also competed in the men's hammer throw and turned in a strong performance to move into the top five on the Blue Devil charts. Fay started off with a bang and delivered his best mark on his opening attempt, launching the hammer 64.26m (210-10 feet) to place fourth overall and slot himself No. 4 all-time at Duke.
- The women's shot put saw Gwen Howard deliver a personal best as the freshman made her third time the charm and tallied a mark of 14.28m (46-10.25 feet) – No. 5 all-time at Duke.

Duke will feature a split group as the team embarks on a tri-meet weekend. Blue Devils will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut, California) from Apr. 15-18, the Wake Forest Invitational (Winston-Salem) Apr. 16-17 and the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational (Gainesville, Florida) Apr. 17-18.
