DURHAM, N.C. – No. 14 Duke secured its third straight run-rule victory with an 8-0 win over Charlotte in five innings Tuesday night at Smith Family Stadium.
The Blue Devils extended their win streak to six games and improved to 36-12 on the year, while the Niners fall to 26-23 overall.

Ava Bradshaw combined for the three-hit shutout in the circle. Wheeler earned her ninth start of the season, working the first 2.0 innings, while Jacquez was credited with the win for her 2.0 innings of relief. Bradshaw held the Niners hitless in the final inning, allowing just one walk with one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Layla Lamar put the Blue Devils ahead early with a three-run homer in the opening frame. The long ball scored senior Aminah Vega and redshirt junior Jessica Oakland after the duo reached on back-to-back walks.
- Duke quickly loaded the bases in the bottom of the second using a base hit from freshman Adelyn Matthews and a pair of one-out walks from senior D'Auna Jennings and Vega. Oakland and graduate student Tyrina Jones then reached on fielder's choices hit to the Charlotte shortstop to knock in two additional runs and push the lead to 5-0.
- In the third frame, the Blue Devils took advantage of a Charlotte error on a failed pickoff attempt, allowing two runs to score and extend the advantage to 7-0.
- Duke loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fourth before redshirt junior Kairi Rodriguez dropped an RBI-single into left field to plate senior Aleyah Terrell for Duke's eighth and final run.
- Charlotte drew a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth before Bradshaw retired the following three batters on a foul out, strikeout and ground out to second to preserve the shutout.
NOTES
- Jacquez improves to her season ledger to 5-4 after 27 appearances in the circle.
- Lamar launched her 12th home run of the season and has sent out three in the last four games. Her four RBI also marked her 13th multi-RBI outing of the year.
- Duke recorded its eighth run-rule victory of the season and third straight five-inning game.
- The Blue Devils tallied their fourth shutout of the season.
- Duke leads the all-time series with Charlotte, 9-1, including a perfect 6-0 advantage when playing in Durham.
