DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis trio of
Irina Balus,
Liv Hovde and
Eleana Yu received College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades this week, as announced by the organization.
CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, have at least sophomore academic standing at their current institution and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.
Balus, who hails from Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, registered a 21-9 overall singles and 16-4 dual match ledger. She was ranked as high as No. 12 in singles and No. 2 in doubles, while earning All-America honors for the second year in a row. Balus totaled 12 singles wins against ranked opponents, including a pair of victories against the No. 12 and No. 2 ranked players nationally. The sophomore advanced to the NCAA Singles Championship round of 16. Balus owns a 3.975 grade-point average.
Hovde collected a team-high 42 singles and doubles victories on the season. She was ranked as high as No. 49 nationally in singles and No. 2 in doubles. A sophomore native of Daniel Island, South Carolina, Hovde collected four wins against ranked singles opponents. She owns a 3.744 grade-point average.
A product of Mason, Ohio, Yu totaled an 11-11 singles record and was ranked as high as No. 42 nationally on the year. She went 16-11 in doubles action and was ranked No. 32 nationally with
Claire An during the season. Yu is majoring in economics and features a 3.838 grade-point average.
As a team, Duke notched a 20-8 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals under the direction of head coach
Jamie Ashworth.
