LEXINGTON, Ky. – Duke track and field throws athlete
Christian Toro became the third Blue Devil to secure his spot at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships, headlining the opening day of competition at the NCAA East Regional.
In addition to Toro's performance, the Blue Devils also saw two student-athletes in sophomores
Aden Bandukwala and
Andres Langston advance to the quarterfinals of the 800 meters and 400-meter hurdles, respectively.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Toro opened NCAA East Regional action for the Duke men Wednesday morning in the hammer throw and turned in a formidable showing en route to punching his ticket to nationals. The junior came through with a clutch toss of 66.44m (218 feet) on his third and final attempt to finish ninth overall and secure his spot in Eugene.
- Bandukwala and Langston notched strong performances in their first-round races to advance to Friday's quarterfinal in their respective events.
- Langston snagged the automatic qualifier in the 400 hurdles after clocking the fastest time in his heat, 50.21. Over in the 800, Bandukwala booked his spot in the next round as he qualified on time of 1:47.10. Â

Duke opens the first day of women's action at the NCAA East Regional on Thursday. The Blue Devils get things going at 1 p.m. in the women's javelin, before kicking off their evening slate with the long jump (6 p.m.), pole vault and 1500 meters – the latter two starting at 6:30 p.m.
