LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior
Gemma Tutton nabbed her spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the women's pole vault and six Blue Devils advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals in their respective events on an impressive day of competition at the NCAA East Regional by the Duke track and field women.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Tutton delivered a strong outing in the women's pole vault Thursday evening, placing fifth in her flight while equaling the seventh-best mark among the overall field. After passing on the first two heights, the Lewes, United Kingdom, standout cleared 4.22m (13-10) and 4.27m (14-0 feet) on her second attempt – the latter mark punching her ticket to Eugene, Oregon.
- Thursday's slate also saw six Blue Devils in sophomores Braelyn Baker and Maya Collins, junior Mia Edim, graduate students Bailey Goggans and Stephanie Moss and senior Lauren Tolbert inch one step closer to booking their respective spots at nationals. Â
- Edim led the way as she advanced to the 100-meter and 200-meter quarterfinals, snagging the automatic bid in the 100 with a dash of 11.34 before earning a time qualifier in the 200 with a mark of 23.17.
- Baker, Collins, Moss and Tolbert all earned automatic bids to their quarterfinal races after posting top-three times in their respective event heats.
- Baker clocked 51.62 in the 400 meters, while Collins – who also competed in the 200 – hit the tape in 23.01. Tolbert contested the 800 meters and stopped the clock at 2:02.22, with Moss finishing her 1500-meter run in 4:16.55.
- Goggans rounded out the group of Saturday quarterfinalists, collecting a time qualifier behind a mark of 4:16.55.

The Blue Devil men return to action at the NCAA East Regional with the squad set to compete in five races on the track. Friday's slate gets underway at 5 p.m., in the 4x100-meter relay, with Duke's remaining events of the evening including the 3000-meter steeplechase (5:40 p.m.), 800 (7:05 p.m.), 400-meter hurdles (7:25 p.m.) and 5000 meters (8:10 p.m.).
