LEXINGTON, Ky. – Duke track and field pushed its NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier total to six Friday evening as sophomores
Aden Bandukwala and
Andres Langston punched their tickets to Eugene in the 800-meter run and 400 hurdles events, respectively.
The pair turned in heroic performances in their respective races to earn their first-career bid to the national meet, with each turning in personal bests and the fourth-fastest times in their event fields, while also improving their own Duke school records.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Langston secured his spot in Eugene by way of the automatic qualifier, blazing to the second-fastest time in his heat of 48.86. The sophomore further cemented himself in Blue Devil lore by becoming the first Duke male all-time to break the 49-second barrier in the 400 hurdles.
- Bandukwala secured his berth to nationals with an impressive outing in his race, which saw him make some Blue Devil magic of his own by becoming the first Duke man to shatter the 1:46 mark in the outdoor 800. The Hinsdale, Illinois, product finished fourth in a highly-competitive heat, stopping the clock at 1:45.40 to earn the time qualifier.
- Although their season came to an end at regionals, the Duke men's 4x100-meter relay turned in a solid, record-breaking performance in their quarterfinal race. The Blue Devil graduate student quartet of Andrew Steele, Colin O'Malley, Liam O'Hara and Quinton Godfrey clocked a season best of 39.36, lowering the squad's own program record.
