The action started with 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying.Ā Cañado Espinal carded rounds of 72 and 66 for a 4-under, 138, to finish tied for first, while Navarro Navarro placed fourth with scores of 70 and 69 for a 3-under, 139.Ā C. Valenciana earned the No. 1 seed heading into match play and Catalonia was the No. 2 seed.Ā

The future Duke teammates were paired against each other in an individual match.Ā Cañado Espinal took the first lead of the match on No. 3, but Navarro Navarro won the next hole to tie the match.Ā Navarro Navarro took a 1-up lead through the fifth hole, but Cañado Espinal evened the score by winning No. 7.Ā Cañado Espinal regained the lead on No. 9 and increased her lead to 3-up through 12.Ā Navarro Navarro didn't stop battling though as she won holes Nos. 14 and 15 to cut the deficit to one hole, but couldn't even the match with Cañado Espinal winning, 1-up.Ā
