2021: Made 12 appearances with two starts on the mound ... carried a 7.02 ERA and a 1-0 record ... allowed 13 runs on 23 hits and 10 walks while striking out 25 in 16.2 innings of work ... made his Duke debut at Coastal Carolina (2/20), allowing one solo home run as the only hit while striking out four in two innings pitched ... put together a scoreless outing against Wake Forest (4/16), striking out four in 1.1 innings of work ... struck out three in 2.1 hitless innings pitched against Liberty in the NCAA Knoxville Regional (6/4).
2019 (at Emory): Named to the All-University Athletic Association First Team for the second straight season after registering team-highs in batting average (.392), hits (56), RBI (30), stolen bases (18), multi-hit games while adding a 3-1 record in eight games (7 GS) on the mound, pitching to a 3.66 ERA in 39.1 innings with 30 strikeouts…Finished the season on an offensive tear, reaching base with a hit in 22 of the team's final 24 games including a 12-game hitting streak to end the season as batted .474 (45-for-95) during the stretch…In 15 of those 22 ballgames, he recorded at least two hits including seven such contests with three hits or more…Drove in a career-high six RBI in the team’s win over Oglethorpe on April 17th…Had a season-high four hits with two doubles and three RBI in the team’s win over #17 Huntingdon on April 6th.
2018 (at Emory): D3Baseball.com All-South Region Third Team…All-University Athletic Association First Team…Brereton was the lone Eagle to start all 38 games during the 2018 season, turning in one of the top dual threat seasons at the Division III level…Led the Eagles offense with 48 hits, 37 runs, 10 doubles, three triples, 15 walks, 13 stolen bases, .467 slugging percentage while hitting for a .320 average and belting a pair of home runs…Registered a team-high 16 multi-hit games…On the mound, Brereton posted a 5-4 record in 12 appearances, 11 starts, to go along with a 3.60 ERA and a team-leading five victories and 66 strikeouts…He exceled during UAA contests, going a perfect 4-0 in his four starts while pitching to a 2.03 ERA with conference opponents hitting just .168 against him…He was named to the D3Baseball.com National Team of the Week on February 21st and was selected as either the UAA Hitter or Pitcher of the Week on five different occasions.
2017 (at Emory): Was named the University Athletic Association Rookie of the Year…Batted .244 (11-for-45) with three doubles, eight RBI and eight runs scored...Pitched to a 2.48 ERA in 14 appearances including two starts, going 4-1 with one save and 23 strikeouts in 32.2 innings…Made his collegiate debut in a doubleheader against Sewanee University on February 12th…Was 0-for-1 with HBP and a SAC in game one before recording 2.1 scoreless innings for the save in game two…Tallied his first career hit on February 18th versus Washington & Lee University…Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief against Huntingdon on February 26th for his first win of the year…Made his first career start on the mound on April 11th at Oglethorpe University, allowing two runs (1 ER) in five innings to go along with a career-high seven strikeouts.
High School: Played four season for the Darien High School baseball program under Head Coach Mike Scott...Served as team captain as a senior...2016 FCIAC Player of the Year...MSG Varsity All-State selection...Named Connecticut Post All-State...Team MVP...Helped Darien capture the 2016 FCIAC Championship.
Personal: Born Richard Francis Brereton III on June 27, 1998 … son of Rich and Denise Brereton … has one sister, Colleen … aunt, Kim Rogowski, competed on the Duke track team in 1998.
