Aaron DeKalb joined the Blue Devil volleyball program in February 2025 and serves as the Assistant Coach.
DeKalb joins Duke after two three-year stints as an assistant coach at Cornell. From 2021-23, he helped recruit and develop standout players Joanna Cheng, Casey Justice and Jill Bennett who earned All-Ivy recognition. Additionally, Eliza Konvicka was named to the All-Ivy Second Team and led the league in kills, while Sydney Moore ranked third in the conference for blocks per set.
During his 2015-18 tenure at Cornell, DeKalb was instrumental in the Big Red's turnaround. The program had its best single-season improvement during 2016, with a 12-12 record, which doubled its win total from the previous season. In 2017, he helped guide the team to an 8-6 conference record and a third-place finish in the Ivy League.
Beyond his time at Cornell, DeKalb served as an assistant coach at the University of Mary from 2019-21 and as a student assistant coach at Grand View University from 2014-15. He has also coached at the Johnston Volleyball Club, Precision Volleyball Club and Going Gold Volleyball Club.
As a student-athlete himself, DeKalb attended Belmont Abbey College, where he was a team captain and ranked second in NCAA Division I/II in digs per set. He transferred to Grand View University, where he won a conference championship in 2014 and helped his team place third at the NAIA Nationals in 2014 and 2015.
He graduated in 2015 from Grand View University as a sports management major and earned his master's in sports management in 2020 from Bournemouth University.Â
