Upcoming Event: Women's Soccer versus Notre Dame (Semifinals) on November 6, 2025

DURHAM, N.C.---Even though Sarah Pickens (Greensboro, N.C.) only stands 5-foot-3, she has become a recognizable person around the Duke University campus. Pickens, a junior forward on the Duke University women's soccer team, has been featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the October 23rd issue of Sports Illustrated.
Pickens was chosen for her accomplishments after scoring the game-winning goal as the Blue Devils upset then No. 2 Clemson 1-0 on Oct. 7. In the 85th minute of that game, Pickens ended a scoreless tie after she collected a cross in the box from midfielder Susan Kraeger (St. Louis, Mo.) and beat Tigers goalkeeper Katie Carson to the near post for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Pickens currently leads the Blue Devils in scoring with eight goals and two assists for 18 points, including four game-winning goals.
After winning their first eight games of the year, Duke has dropped four of their last seven. The Blue Devils are currently 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They will return to action on Sat. Oct. 21, when the Blue Devils travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on the University of Virginia. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
