Kester, a 2000 graduate of Duke, was selected in the second round as the 14th overall pick by the San Diego Spirit. Kester, a native of High Point, N.C., was a three-time All-ACC, two-time All-South, and two-time NSCAA All-America selection for the Blue Devils. She finished her career at Duke ranked second in goals (35), third in points (78), and third in shots (191). Kester played the 2000 season for the Raleigh Wings in the W-League.
Whelchel, a 1999 graduate of Duke, was selected in the third round as the 20th overall pick by the New York Power. Whelchel, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., was a four-time All-ACC and a three-time All-Region selection. She also was named a NSCAA All-America selection her senior year. Whelchel has also been a member of the Raleigh Wings for the past two seasons.
Cagle, a 1996 graduate of Duke, was selected in the sixth round as the 81st overall pick by the Atlanta Beat. A native of Tucson, Ariz., Cagle was a three-time All-America selection (1993-95) for the Blue Devils. She also received All-ACC honors three times and was the ACC Player of the Year in 1995. Cagle is the all-time leader in points (117), goals (47), and shots (317) at Duke. She had previously played for the Raleigh Wings from 1998-2000. The former Kelly Walbert, is married to Dan Cagle, the Duke men's assistant soccer coach.
"I am ecstatic about it, and I know that Sherrill and Kristy are also very happy, " said Cagle. "I am really excited about going to Atlanta and playing for former Duke standout Tom Stone.
