Senior forward Abby Wambach recorded two goals and an assist as 15th-ranked Florida shutout Duke, 3-0, in women's soccer at Percy Beard Stadium on Friday night. It was the Blue Devils' fourth straight loss, dropping them to 4-7 on the year (0-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), while the Gators improved to 9-2-1 (4-0 Southeastern).
Freshman forward Monica Hoyles scored from six yards out off a rebound to get the Gators on the board 41 minutes into the game, which was all Florida would need.
Wambach scored her first goal of the game at the 59:33 mark, converting on a pass from sophomore midfielder Casey Hamel. Her second goal came off a penalty kick with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
The lone bright spot for Duke was the return of co-captain Kasey Truman. The senior midfielder had four shots in 53 minutes of action in her first match since the 1999 season due to two separate knee injuries.
The Blue Devils return to action when they take on Florida International at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
