GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke's Alana Beard was selected Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday for the second consecutive week.
Beard, a 5-11 sophomore guard, received the honor after scoring 21 points and dishing out nine assists in a 90-58 win over UNC Greensboro. Beard hit her first five field goals on her way to finishing 7 of 9 from the floor including 3 for 4 from behind the arc. The Shreveport, La., native also grabbed eight rebounds, tallied seven steals and two blocks in her 29 minutes of action.
For the season, Beard is averaging 18.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 4.5 steals, 0.7 blocks. The preseason ACC Player of the Year is shooting 61 percent from the field, 46 percent from 3-point land and 74 percent from the free throw line. Beard currently leads the ACC in scoring (18.2), steals (4.5), ranks fourth in field goal percentage (.612), 10th in rebounding (6.0) and third in assist/turnover ratio (2.23).
In the last three games, she is averaging 20.0 points, 8.7 assists, 6.0 rebounds, 4.7 steals, while hitting 74 percent of her field goals, 75 percent of her 3-point field goals and 89 percent of her free throws.
Duke (8-2, 1-0 ACC) will host Liberty on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
