Georgia got things going by taking two of three doubles matches to start off with a 1-0 lead. Duke's third-ranked doubles duo of Megan Miller/Amanda Johnson fell 9-7 to Aarthi Venkatesan/Lori Grey and Blue Devils' Hillary Adams/Katie Granson lost 9-8 (5) to Tina Hojnik/Agata Cioroch. The Blue Devils 35th-ranked doubles duo of Ansley Cargill/Kathy Sell picked up the lone doubles win for Duke with a 8-3 victory over Christa Grey/Alex Smith, but the team which tallies two doubles victories earns the point.
The Bulldogs dominated singles action on Saturday taking the No. 3 through No. 6 spots, while Duke's top-ranked Cargill posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over 22nd-ranked Venkatesan at the No. 1 position. Georgia pulled off victories by 20th-ranked Nguyen won 7-5, 6-2 over Miller, 57th-ranked Hojnik defeated seventh-ranked Sell (6-2, 6-2), and Cioroch took down Granson 6-2, 6-4.
After Georgia clinched the victory at the No. 4 singles position, the other two singles matches were abandoned-- No. 2 Lori Grey vs. Amanda Johnson and No. 6 Christa Grey vs. Hillary Adams.
Duke falls to 5-1, while Georgia improves to 5-0. The top two teams in the country will meet on Sunday in the finals on Sunday as Georgia will battle Stanford. Top-ranked Stanford knocked off Vanderbilt on Saturday to advance.
The Blue Devils will next host Virginia Commonwealth on Feb. 25 at 11:00 AM. All matches are being played in the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
