Duke Hosts Florida International Wednesday In Final Home Game of 2002...
After outscoring opponents by 59.8 points in the first four home games, top-ranked Duke (8-0) welcomes Florida International (6-2) on Wednesday at 7:00 PM in Cameron Indoor Stadium, which marks its final home game of 2002.
The Blue Devils will next travel to Tulsa, Okla. for an 8:00 PM contest at the University of Tulsa on Saturday, Dec. 21. It marks homecoming for junior Iciss Tillis, who is from Tulsa.
Both games will be aired on the Duke Radio Network (WDNC-AM 620) with Steve Barnes calling the play-by-play and Missy Anderson doing the color.
A Look at Florida International...
Florida International heads to Durham winners of its last four games in a row, after falling 68-54 to current second-ranked Louisiana State. The Golden Panthers are 6-2 overall and will be playing in their third game over the past five days on Wednesday.
Florida International and Duke have met only once in the history of the two programs. The meeting came on Jan. 1, 1984 in the Dial Classic in Miami, Fla. with the Golden Panthers winning 83-56. FIU advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round last season and finished the season ranked 23rd in the Associated Press poll with a 27-6 record.
Undefeated Starts...
For only the fourth time in school history, Duke has bolted out to an 8-0 record on the season. Since Coach G arrived in 1992-93, Duke has two of the top four undefeated marks.

Duke owns an all-time record of 4-1 against the Sun Belt Conference-- Western Kentucky (1-0), Florida International (0-1), Arkansas State (1-0), Middle Tennessee State (1-0) and South Alabama (1-0).
Winning Streak...
Duke owns a 16 game home winning streak dating back to last season. In ACC games only, the Blue Devils have won 11 consecutive home contests. Duke has not lost more than two games at home in one season since the 1995-96 season. The streak is the third-best in the nation behind Connecticut (50) and Oklahoma (25).
No Rest For The Blue Devils...
After having seven days off for final exams, Duke is in the middle of a stretch where the Blue Devils will play three games in five days. This is nothing new for Duke this year as it opened the season with five games in nine days.
The stretch also includes the first true road contest for the Blue Devils as they travel to Tulsa. So far Duke has played four home games and four neutral contests.
Homecoming For Tillis...
Junior Iciss Tillis will be heading home to Tulsa, Okla. on Friday as the Blue Devils travel to play the University of Tulsa on Saturday at 9:00 PM (EST). Tillis was a 2000 graduate of Cascia Hall Prep in Tulsa. She guided Cascia Hall Prep to a 91-17 record in four years and has a two-time Parade All-America selection.
Traveling to hometowns of players is a regular thing for the Blue Devils. Harding Sets Nine Career Highs Against Charleston Southern...
Duke freshman Lindsey Harding set nine career highs in the Charleston Southern contest on Monday. In the game, the speedy guard missed her first career double-double by one rebound as she registered 12 points and nine rebounds. She also had career highs in field goals (5), field goal attempts (8), 3-point field goals (1), 3-point field goal attempts (2), 3-point field goal percentage (.500), blocks (1) and steals (4). Her 3-pointer she made was the first of her career.
Harding is averaging 3.75 assists a game, which ranks eighth in the ACC stats. She has the highest assist average of any freshman in the ACC.
Turnover Prone ...
Duke's defense this season has been incredible as the Blue Devils are forcing 27.4 turnovers a contest. In eight games, Duke has forced 30 or more turnovers three times and 20 or more seven times. Charleston Southern committed a season-high 37 on Monday.
As a team, the Blue Devils are only committing 15.8 turnovers a game and leads the ACC with a +11.62 turnover margin.
Bass Misses Start ...
Freshman Mistie Bass missed a start against Charleston Southern on Monday due to a turned ankle she suffered last Thursday in practice. She missed one day of practice and saw 20 minutes of action off the bench against the Lady Buccaneers, while scoring 13 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Bass currently ranks 15th in the ACC in scoring (11.9), fourth in field goal percentage (.582) and eighth in free throw percentage (.738).
The Beard Factor...
In eight games this season, junior Alana Beard is averaging 22.9 points and has scored 20 or more points in six of the eight games. Of her 20-point games, Beard has registered 22 or more points in all six games.
Her 22.9 average ranks 11th in the NCAA, while her 4.3 steals average is eighth.
Balanced Scoring Attack...
Of Duke's 10 active players on the roster, all 10 are averaging 4.9 points or greater with Alana Beard being the only player averaging more than 14 points a game (22.9). Nine of the 10 players have scored 10 or more points in at least one contest.
Domination At Home...
So far this season, Duke has played four games at home. In those four games, Duke is averaging 106.0 points a game, shooting 55.9 percent from the field, 42.0 from 3-point range and 72.4 from the free throw line. The Blue Devils are outrebouding its opponents 48.5 to 24.0 (+24.5), averaging 27.0 assists, 18.5 steals and 4.8 blocks in those four games. Duke is outscoring opponents by a 59.8 clip.

In the NCAA stats posted through games of Dec. 16, Duke ranks second in scoring offense (88.8), seventh in scoring defense (49.8), first in scoring margin (39.0), 12th in field goal percentage (49.5), tied 18th in field goal percentage defense (34.0), seventh in rebounding margin (13.0), fourth in assists (21.9), fifth in steals (15.1) and tied first in won/loss percentage (1.000).
