DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's tennis team, which is ranked fourth nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, improved to 4-0 on the season Saturday with a 7-0 rout of the Indiana Hoosiers (2-1) in Durham, N.C.
The Hoosiers were shorthanded on the afternoon with only five players traveling to Durham. Duke took to opening doubles point with an 8-1 victory by 49th-ranked Katie Granson/Julia Smith over Martina Grimm/Sarah Batty at the number one slot and an 8-2 win by Julie DeRoo/Hillary Adams Linda Tran/Dominika Walterova.
In singles action, the Blue Devils cruised to four quick wins to clinch the victory. Duke's second-ranked Kelly McCain downed Tran (6-1, 6-1) and 15th-ranked Amanda Johnson knocked off Batty (6-3, 6-3) at the number one and two positions, respectively. Then, 65th-ranked Smith defeated Walterova (6-1, 6-1) and 43rd-ranked Saras Arasu downed Jessica Groth (6-0, 6-0).
Duke will next travel to the ITA National Indoors at Madison, Wisc. on Feb. 6-9.
