Duke Women's Tennis Rebounds With 7-0 Victory Over Michigan

DURHAM, N.C. - After coming off its first loss of the season, the sixth-ranked Duke women's tennis team rebounded with a 7-0 victory over 34th-ranked Michigan on Friday afternoon at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Blue Devils improve to 10-1 overall, while the Wolverines fall to 5-3.
Duke jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. The Blue Devils won their 10th consecutive doubles point after winning all three doubles matches. The 16th-ranked tandem of Hillary Adams/Kelly McCain made quick work of Kimberly Plaushines/Kavitha Tipimeni (8-2) at the second slot. Then, the second-ranked duo of Amanda Johnson/Julie DeRoo downed Michelle DaCosta/Leanne Rutherford (8-4) and then 21st-ranked Katie Granson/Julia Smith knocked off Christine Nolan/Debra Streifler (8-5).
The Blue Devils kept it rolling in to singles action as the Blue Devils swept the Wolverines to register a 7-0 win. Sophomore 37th-ranked Saras Arasu cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Joanne Musgrove at the sixth slot and 111th-ranked Granson downed 92nd-ranked Rutherford (6-1, 6-2) at the fourth position.
Then, Duke picked up victories at the No. 1 slot by top-ranked McCain over DaCosta (6-3, 6-1), No. 5 as 61st-ranked DeRoo upended Streifler (6-4, 6-2), No. 3 as 51st-ranked Smith downed Nolan (6-2, 6-4) and No. 2 where 22nd-ranked Johnson knocked off Tipimeni (7-5, 6-2).
Next up for the Blue Devils is 55th-ranked Purdue on Sunday at 12:00 PM. The contest will be played outside at the Ambler Tennis Stadium unless inclement weather arises.
