WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--Duke University senior Saras Arasu advanced to the quarterfinals on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regionals, after picking up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Caitlin Collins of North Carolina in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Duke's other singles players all fell on Saturday as Jennifer Zika lost a 6-4, 6-2 win against Barbara Orlay of N.C. State; Jackie Carleton fell 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to Kendall Cline of North Carolina; Katie Blaszak lost a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Anelia Mojzis of North Carolina; and Clelia Deltour fell 6-4, 7-6 to Sarah Foster of Kentucky.
In doubles action, the duo of Kristin Cargill and Zika won two matches on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals as the tandem defeated Collins and Charlotte Tansill of North Carolina, 8-2, and Marlia Illina and Sylwia Ziolkowska of East Tennessee State, 8-4. The doubles team of Blaszak and Carleton also won two matches on the day against Margot Carter and Ngiam of Tennessee State, 8-0, and Danielle Petrisko and Christine Simplon of Kentucky, 8-6.
The Blue Devil duo of Arasu and Tory Zawacki lost, 8-6, to Sara Anundsen and Jena Long of North Carolina, 8-6.
