DURHAM, N.C.-The fifth-ranked Duke women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over 75th-ranked Yale (5-6) on Thursday at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Blue Devils improve to 9-1 overall and won their 22nd match in a row at home.
The doubles point was the tightest thing of all as it came down to a 9-8 tie-breaking win at the No. 2 position by Duke to capture the 1-0 lead. The Blue Devil duo of Amanda Johnson and Saras Arasu downed Aimee Kim and Rashmee Patil to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Duke also notched an easy 8-2 victory at the third slot as Kristin Cargill and Jennifer Zika defeated Christine Alford and Olivia Nix. The lone loss for the Blue Devils came at No. 1 as Tory Zawacki and Julia Smith were up 7-6 before falling 9-7 to Ashley Martin and Karlyn Martin.
In singles action, fifth-ranked Johnson dominated Karlyn Martin at the top slot winning 6-2, 6-1, which put the Blue Devils up 2-0. Cargill, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., also won easily with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Stephanie White at the fifth position to give Duke a 3-0 lead.
At the second position, Duke's Zika clinched the victory for the Blue Devils as she won 6-2, 6-2 over Alford. Also, picking up victories for Duke was Smith with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Patil, Zawacki earned 6-4, 7-6 victory in a tough match against Reshmi Srinath and Parker Goyer won 7-5, 6-4 over Kim. The victory for Goyer was her first dual match win of her career.
Duke will next host North Carolina on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
