WILMINGTON, N.C.- Duke University senior Saras Arasu and sophomore Tory Zawacki each cruised to claim singles titles at the Landfall/UNCW Invitational on Sunday in Wilmington, N.C., as the Blue Devils opened the 2004 fall season.
Arasu, a native of Tampa, Fla., picked up victories over Charlotte Tansill of North Carolina (6-7, 7-5) and Erin Stahl Johanson of N.C. State (6-1, 6-2) to win the Navy Bracket.
A product of Union, N.J., Zawacki defeated Julia Roach of N.C. State (6-3, 6-4) and Alex Jurewicz of North Carolina (6-1, 6-3) to win the Teal Bracket.
In doubles, the duo of Arasu and Zawacki fell in the second round to Stahl Johanson/Roach, 9-8.
Duke will next travel to Williamsburg, Va., to compete in the William & Mary Invitational on Sept. 24-26.
