LOS ANGELES ? Duke sophomore Clelia Deltour and freshman Jessi Robinson advanced to the Round of 16 with two wins in the 64-field pre-qualifying tournament, which feeds into the 2005 Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament, Saturday at UCLA. One more win will give Deltour, the top seed in the pre-qualifying singles division, and Robinson a berth to the qualifying tournament, held Oct. 4-5 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The main draw will be Oct. 6-9 at the Riviera.
Deltour opened competition Saturday with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Utah's Emily Kwok in the Round of 64. Moving up, she defeated Macall Harkins of Illinois, 6-1, 6-2, in the Round of 32 and will play Georgia Tech's Lyndsay Shosho Sunday at noon EDT.
Robinson will also compete at noon on Sunday after posting wins over Beatrix Csordas of Depaul (7-5, 6-3) and Boston's Gina Sabatino (6-2, 6-4). Robinson faces Nebraska's Kim Hartman Sunday.
Freshman Melissa Mang also competed Saturday, falling in a close match to Tulsa's Carla Zabaleta in the Round of 64, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-1.
Also in California, sophomore Jennifer Zika continued play at the Cal Invitational, defeating Brigham Young's Hanni Deters, 6-1, 6-1, in a consolation round robin.
