DURHAM, N.C. ? The honors continue to pour in for Duke's Rebecca Moros as the junior was selected Soccer America National Player of the Week and to the Soccer Buzz National Team of the Week on Wednesday, after netting two goals to knock off knock off unbeaten and No. 1 ranked North Carolina on Sunday.
Moros posted the first two-goal performance of her career as 11th-ranked Duke downed North Carolina, 2-1, at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C., handing the Tar Heels their first loss of the season. A midfielder from Larchmont, N.Y., Moros tallied the game's first goal in the 16th minute and then won the match in the 87th minute as she took a cross from Kate Seibert and chipped the ball into the back of the net for the game-winner.
The victory for Duke was its second all-time versus North Carolina with the other win coming in 1994 as the Blue Devils knocked off the Tar Heels, 3-2, in Chapel Hill. In the overall series, North Carolina now leads 27-2-1. The loss for North Carolina was the first regular season loss since falling, 2-1, at N.C. State on Oct. 10, 2002, a span of 41 regular season games. It was also the first regular season loss for the Tar Heels at Fetzer Field since a 3-2 loss to Penn State on Sept. 12, 1999.
She was also named ACC Player of the Week on Monday and the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Moros and the Blue Devils (9-2-1) are back in action on Wednesday evening as they host eighth-ranked Wake Forest at 7:00 p.m. Duke will also host Maryland on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with both matches taking place at Koskinen Stadium.
