GREENSBORO, N.C. ? Duke's Carolyn Ford was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week after guiding the sixth-ranked Blue Devils to a pair of conference home wins against No. 12 Wake Forest and Maryland.
Playing centerback for the Blue Devils, Ford led the Duke defense to two shutouts allowing only nine total shots in the two victories. The senior from Bethesda, Md. also assisted on both game-winning goals.
Against Wake Forest in the 20th minute of action, Ford sent a pass to Lauren Tippets, who then sent a high shot on goal that deflected off the goalkeeper and into the net for an early 1-0 lead. The Duke defense allowed just six shots in the game, four on goal, while limiting the Demon Deacons to two corner kicks as the Blue Devils claimed a 3-0 victory.
In Sunday's game vs. Maryland, Ford and the Blue Devil defense limited the Terrapins to just one shot on goal and no corner kicks in the 1-0 win. The senior defender once again tallied the game-winning assist off a header from freshman Christie McDonald. Ford sent a long feed off a free kick to McDonald who found the back of the net with less than five minutes remaining in the first half.
Ford and the Blue Devils are back in action this weekend as they travel to Clemson on Thursday before wrapping up their regular season road schedule at Florida State on Sunday.
