PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. -- Duke junior Daniela Bercek defeated eighth-seeded Alice Barnes of Stanford, 6-2, 6-2, Saturday to advance from the semifinals to the championship match of the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament. As a tennis player at UCLA last year, Bercek made it to the Round of 16 in the All-American main draw but has already advanced three rounds past that in her first time competing for Duke at the prestigious event.
Sunday's championship will be a match between fifth-ranked Bercek and third-ranked Nicole Leimbach of TCU. Leimbach defeated USC's Amanda Fink, 6-4, 7-5, to move to the final round, which will be the first All-American championship match appearance for both competitors.
Bercek will look to claim Duke's third All-American championship in six years. The tournament is the first of three national events for collegiate women's tennis players throughout the year, including the National Intercollegiate Indoors in November and the spring NCAA Championships, and was won by Ansley Cargill in 2000 and Kelly McCain in 2002.
Bercek and Leimbach will match up at 3 p.m. EDT Sunday. Action can be followed live on RadioTennis.com.
