FAIRFAX, VA. ? The Duke swimming and diving team concluded the 2005 portion of the 2005-06 season Sunday, wrapping up competition at the three-day Patriot Invitational. The women's team took third in the 11-team meet, and the men placed fourth. The Blue Devils will take a break before returning to competition at Davidson Jan. 14.
“This meet is one step along the way as we prepare for ACC's,” said head coach Dan Colella. “We may have expected to do a little bit better, but we are getting better with every meet, and if we want to compete with the other teams in the ACC, that's what we need to train for.”
The women led the competition on Friday and fell to second on Saturday and third Sunday. The men maintained their fourth place standing through all three days. Yale swept the team titles, while UMBC finished second in both the men's and women's competition.
In 2006, Duke will host two conference meets and will hit the road for two non-ACC dual meets before the ACC Championships Feb. 15-18. Action resumes for the Blue Devils Jan. 14 at Davidson.
Men's individual results were not available Sunday evening. Check back with GoDuke.com for updates.
