DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke University junior women's soccer player Rachel-Rose Cohen has been named ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-America, which was selected in a vote by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA).
A product of San Diego, Calif., Cohen led the Blue Devils on the defensive end all season starting all 21 contests. Cohen registered her only assist of the season and third of her career in the final regular season contest against Miami as the Blue Devils won, 3-1. She led Duke to 11 shutouts on the year, while allowing a school-record-low goal against average of 0.60. The Blue Devils allowed only 13 goals all season, which also tied a school record.
Over her career, Cohen has started 65 of 66 matches for the Blue Devils. She owns a 3.83 grade point average and is majoring in biological anthropology and anatomy.
The Blue Devils advanced to the second round of the NCAA College Cup before falling to 22nd-ranked Yale, 2-1, in New Haven, Conn. Duke finished with a 14-6-1 overall record and 6-4 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action.
