Storrs, Conn. ? In their final preseason game, #3 Duke traveled to #5 UConn and played them to a scoreless tie in a defensive battle Saturday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
The two teams combined for only 14 total shots in the game and three shots on goal. The Blue Devils had a 5-3 shots advantage in the first half, but the Huskies held them to just one shot in the second stanza. Sophomore goalie Justin Papadakis received his second straight start in net for Duke and made one save in the game. Adam Schuerman stopped two shots for Connecticut. Chris Loftus led the Blue Devils with two shot attempts. Forwards Danny Kramer and Mike Grella each finished with a shot on goal. Willis Forko led the Huskies with two shot attempts and Dori Arad tallied their lone shot on goal. Duke held the UConn's two preseason All-Americas to just one shot in the game.
The Blue Devils will begin the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 1 when Long Island comes to Durham for a 7 p.m. contest.
