DURHAM, N.C. - Duke freshman Andrew Clark was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, as it was announced Monday evening by league officials. Clark posted two victories in his first collegiate meet over the weekend, helping the Blue Devils to a season-opening victory over UNC-Wilmington.
A native of Owings Mills, Md., Clark notched first-place finishes in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events on Saturday in Duke's 154-147 win over UNC-W, a victory that avenged last season's campaign-opening loss to the Seahawks. Clark posted times of 4:45.28 and 9:47.92 in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events, respectively, en route to contributing 22 points to Duke's final meet score.
The last time a men's swimmer from Duke received ACC Performer of the Week accolades was in the year 2000, when then-sophomore Ryan Spoon received the honor. Spoon also hails from Maryland.
Duke returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 4, as the Blue Devils host Maryland and N.C. State in their first home meet of the season. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m.
