DURHAM, N.C. - Duke swimming and diving hosted its annual intrasquad Blue/White meet on Saturday to unofficially kick off the 2006-07 season at Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion.
It was a tight race throughout the first portion of the meet, but the blue team steadily increased its lead and came away with the win, besting its teammates on the white team, 394.5-344.5. The meet itself included 11 events that were completed on Saturday, with the divers' scores from Friday's ECU Diving Invitational counting towards their respective teams. Other events that were completed throughout the week leading up to the meet were also added into the meet scores.
On the women's side, junior Anna Rogers, competing for the blue team, placed first in two events - the 50 free and the 100 free. Freshman Shannon Beall also took first place in two events, one right after the other, taking the top spot in the 200IM and the 200 fly while competing for the blue team. The white team's Jackie Fasano was strong throughout her first career Blue/White meet, taking first place in the 1000 free and second place in the 500 free.
The men's side also saw the freshman class step up for their teams as Andrew Clark and Murillo Adrados both posted two first-place finishes a piece. Clark, competing for the white team, placed first in the 500 free and 1000 free, while Adrados took first place in the 50 free and the 200 back as a competitor for the blue team.
The swimming and diving teams will be in action at their first dual meet on Oct. 21 when the Blue Devil men meet UNC-Wilmington and the women meet UNC-Wilmington and Richmond in Wilmington, N.C., at 11 a.m.
The Blue Devils' first home meet will take place on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. as Duke takes on Maryland and N.C. State in ACC matchups.
