James Madison Head Coach Antoinette Lucas
Opening Statement:
“When you get into the NCAA Tournament every match you have is going to be close. It's unfortunate that we were unable to capitalize in regulation.”
On the team fighting back after being behind early:
“This team has done that all year long and that's the reason we were here. I think we were deserving of going to the NCAA Tournament and I thought we would go farther than we did but their fighting back all year long has been our motivation and something to give light on.”
On JMU's transition game:
“We have really fast forwards and we thought that that's where Duke was a bit vulnerable. They push up with so many numbers and then you have to capitalize on the counter attack against a team like Duke.”
Duke Head Coach Beth Bozman
On the team's overall performance:
“It's tournament time and it's survive and advance. Every game is going to be tight and you really need to bring your “A” game. I don't think we brought our “A” game today but we survived and we're dancing and we'll work on some things to get ready for tomorrow.”
On what needs to be worked on:
“I think we were a little bit unorganized defensively and I think we need to play like we're a goal down for the entire game with that sort of urgency. This is a critical situation now. We want to have that mindset throughout the entire tournament. We think we are a very talented team and we want to play like that for 70 minutes.”
On having nine days off before today's game:
“We needed a break. We were physically and emotionally drained and we really needed to step back and give ourselves a break. I think it was good for us.”
On playing at home:
“We were very excited to be at home. One of our goals this year was to start winning at home again and I think we've been pretty successful. I think we feel a little inspired to be here. To say that we're not playing a little bit in Maria [Whitehead's] memory, we are, and this is where she is and this is where we want to be.”
