DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke swimming and diving teams will host a tri-meet with Maryland and N.C. State on Saturday at Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion, with action set to begin at 2 p.m. For all three teams, the meet will mark the first time this season that each team will face an ACC opponent.
The Blue Devil men and women have started the 2006-07 season unbeaten, as the men's squad is 1-0 and the women's squad is 2-0 going into Saturday's tri-meet. Both teams posted wins over UNC-Wilmington in Wilmington, N.C., on Oct. 21, while the women also defeated Richmond at Duke's season-opener.
The Duke men's squad defeated UNC-Wilmington, 154-147, with seven Blue Devils notching first-place finishes. Five freshmen recorded wins, as Andrew Clark touched first in the 500 and 1000 free events and received ACC Player Of the Week accolades for a stellar performance at his first collegiate meet. The Blue Devil women defeated UNC-Wilmington, 164-117, and Richmond, 165-135, as four women recorded first-place finishes with three of those Blue Devils each posting wins in two events. Two freshmen women had a double-victory showing.
The Maryland men and women are both coming off wins over Johns Hopkins, and enter Saturday's meet with a record of 1-0. Last time Duke and Maryland clashed in the pool, the Blue Devil men defeated the Terps, 126-115, while the Terp women defeated Duke, 134-109.
The N.C. State men bring a record of 0-1 into Saturday's meet, as they were defeated by Tennessee. The Wolfpack women are 2-1, as they began the season 2-0 then fell to Richmond. The last time Duke met N.C. State, the Pack men came away with a 161-77 win, while the Pack women were also victorious (125.5-117.5).
