DURHAM, N.C. ? Six Blue Devils including first team picks Matt Danowski, Zack Greer and Tony McDevitt have earned preseason All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse magazine's annual Face-Off Yearbook released this month. In addition, the national publication picked Duke sixth in its preseason poll.
While Danowski, Greer and McDevitt were tabbed to the first unit, Casey Carroll, Peter Lamade and Nick O'Hara received second team recognition.
Duke tied with Syracuse for the most first team selections (3) and its six first and second team choices outdistanced Princeton (4) for the highest total.
Danowski was a first team All-America attackman and the ACC Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2005 after leading the nation in scoring with 92 points on 50 goals and 42 assists. He led Duke in scoring last season with 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists. Greer has paced the Blue Devils in goals scored in each of his first two seasons and has 74 goals in 28 career games.
A midfielder and 2005 second team All-America selection, Lamade has seen action in 41 career games for the Blue Devils and has 31 goals and 21 assists to his credit.
Defensemen McDevitt and Carroll along with long stick midfielder O'Hara headline a Duke defensive unit that allowed just 5.3 goals per game in 2006. McDevitt was a second team All-America selection following the 2005 campaign while Carroll received honorable mention accolades the same season. O'Hara was named to the 2005 NCAA All-Tournament Team following Duke's run to the championship tilt.
Defending national champion Virginia was chosen as the preseason favorite. Johns Hopkins, the 2005 NCAA champion, was picked second followed by Syracuse, Princeton, Georgetown, Duke, Maryland, Cornell, Navy and Massachusetts.
