Maguire Selected 10th in 2026 NLL Entry Draft

DURHAM, N.C.—Former Duke men's lacrosse standout Aidan Maguire was selected 10th overall by the San Diego Seals in the 2026 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft held Sept. 24. It marks the third consecutive year a Blue Devil has been a first-round pick in the NLL.
Maguire, the first short-stick defensive midfielder to be selected No. 1 in a professional lacrosse draft after being picked first in the PLL draft, recently finished his first season with the Utah Archers of the Professional Lacrosse League. In 10 games, Maguire registered two caused turnovers, 12 ground balls and five goals and an assist.
San Diego finished last season, 8-10, sitting in seventh place in the league standings. The Seals' 2026-27 season gets underway Nov. 28 at the Toronto Rock. Maguire joins former Blue Devils Dyson Williams, Jake Naso, Michael Manley and Brennan O'Neill in the league.
A two-time consensus first-team All-American, Maguire was a generational defensive midfielder for the Blue Devils. The Hingham, Massachusetts, native led Duke's rope unit throughout his time in Durham, earning the 2025 Lt. Donald MacLaughlin National Midfielder of the Year and ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. He followed that this season by becoming just the third Blue Devil and first short-stick defensive midfielder in the sport's history to win the USILA Lt. Raymond J. Enners Outstanding Player of the Year award.
A true two-way player as one of the top takeaway artists in lacrosse, Maguire also was an incredible threat in transition with 35 points from 19 goals and 16 assists in 72 games. It is the most points by a short-stick midfielder since Will Haus had 36 points in 79 career games. As a junior, Maguire recorded 26 caused turnovers to tie for fifth among SSDM's in NCAA single-season history and seventh overall in Blue Devil lore. Maguire, anchoring one of the nation's best defenses, added 17 caused turnovers to his career total. In 72 career games, Maguire had 68 caused turnovers, the most of any defensive midfielder in program history and fifth overall at Duke.
