DURHAM, N.C. -- Katie Ness, a 2006 graduate of Duke University and a standout swimmer for four years, was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Ness left a legacy on the Duke swimming and diving program as the owner of six individual school records and the partial owner of five relay records. The Worthington, Ohio, native became Duke's first ACC Champion since 1981 two years ago when she won the 200 IM at the ACC Championships. In 2006, Ness, a four-time All-ACC selection, posted four provisional qualifying times and lowered two Duke records at the ACC Championships. An electrical engineering major, Ness finished her career at Duke with a 3.92 grade point average and an ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship.
Ness garnered ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in 2004-05, but with a first-team selection to the all-district team in 2005-06, she was eligible for consideration as an Academic All-America.
