DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University Swimming Head Coach Dan Colella released the 2006-07swimming and diving schedule on Wednesday, with the squad's annual Blue and White meet scheduled to kick off the season on Oct. 7.
A double-home meet vs. ACC foes N.C. State and Maryland highlights the first portion of the schedule, with the Blue Devils set to head to Chapel Hill for another ACC matchup the following weekend. Other home meets include a December men's meet vs. Western Kentucky and January meets for both squads vs. Davidson and Eastern Carolina. This season's ACC Championships will be held at the University of North Carolina in February.
Colella is entering his second season as Blue Devil head coach and will see 21 returning competitors on the men's squad and 24 on the women's squad. Dawn Chuck and diving coach Andy Scott will join Colella in welcoming 24 freshmen to a team that will be led by five senior men and five senior women in 2006-07.
The Blue Devils are coming off a 2005-06 season that saw the men's squad go 3-6 (1-4 ACC) and the women's squad go 5-6 (1-5 ACC). Both squads posted an Atlantic Coast Conference dual-meet victory for the first time in a number of years at the same meet in November at Maryland. At the 2006 ACC Championships, the women's team established three Duke records and the men threw out two, on their way to 10th and ninth place finishes, respectively.
