DURHAM, N.C. - Graduate student and forward Joshua Medcalf was named the ACC's Co-Player of the Week on Monday after scoring three goals and an assist in three matches last week. The native of Tulsa, Okla., picks up Duke's first ACC Player of the Week award in 2007. Medcalf shares this week's honor with Boston College's Alejandro Bedoya.
This week, Medcalf scored Duke's only goal in a 1-1 tie with No. 4 Virginia Tech on Oct. 23. He then scored the game-tying goal at Virginia on Oct. 26 with only 1:52 remaining in the match and assisted on the game-winner with only 1:58 remaining in the second overtime. Medcalf tallied another score in Duke's 3-0 win over Cleveland State on Oct. 28 to give him seven points in three games for the week. Medcalf has now scored six goals and four assists in only 429 minutes this season. That averages out to 3.35 points-per-90 minutes for the transfer from Vanderbilt. He has a .300 shot percentage, which is tops on the Blue Devil squad. Medcalf has scored a goal in three straight matches and at least one point in six of Duke's last eight games.
Duke hits the road on Wednesday to face Davidson at 7 p.m., in Davidson, N.C. The Blue Devils then return home on Sunday, Nov. 4 to take on Alabama A&M in the final regular season home match of 2007. Admission to all regular season men's soccer games in Koskinen Stadium is free of charge.
