DURHAM, N.C. ? Junior's Kelly Hathorn and Christie McDonald of the Duke University Women's Soccer team were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III squad on Thursday, which was selected in a vote by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA).
Hathorn was named to the second team, while McDonald earned third team accolades.
A product of Durham, N.C., Hathorn received the honor for the second straight year and has collected four goals and five assists for a total of 13 points this season. Hathorn moved from the defensive end to a forward this season and has flourished. She owns a 3.47 grade point average and is majoring in psychology.
McDonald, who is from Newnan, Ga., earned third team accolades as she owns a 3.48 grade point average. A defender, McDonald has started all 16 matches helping Duke to seven shutouts. She has also registered four assists on the season. McDonald is an English major.
Duke will host 25th-ranked Miami tonight at 8:00 p.m., in a key Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) battle at Koskinen Stadium. The first 300 fans in attendance will receive an free hat compliments of adidas.
