DURHAM, N.C. ? Tomek Charowski recently sat down with GoDuke.com for his senior profile. Charowski is a midfielder on the Duke men's soccer team. Charowski discusses his favorite video games, what kind of food he enjoys, his numerous nicknames, plus much more.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite professional team?
Tomek Charowski: The Arsenal Gunners ? the best team in the world playing the world's favorite sport.
GD: What are your favorite movies?
TC: Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Apocalypto and Lord of the Rings.
GD: What's your favorite movie from over the summer?
TC: 300 because it was about a bunch of meat heads and it provided me with motivation to work out and train hard.
GD: What's your favorite TV show?
TC: South Park, Californication, Entourage, the Office, the Colbert Report.
GD: What's your favorite food?
TC: Polish food ? Perogi's and Polish Sausage.
GD: What's your favorite memory to date of your college career?
TC: Making it to the Final Four in 2004 in LA. However, my worst memory also occurred that weekend when we lost to UCSB, 5-0.
GD: What would the perfect end to your athletic career look like?
TC: Playing for Arsenal and winning the Champions League after scoring a last minute game winner.
GD: What game is in your gaming system right now?
TC: About to be Call of Duty 4 for PS3.
GD: What's the best advice you've ever received?
TC: “Live daringly, boldly and fearlessly. Taste the relish to be found in competition ? in having put forth the best within you.” Found this quote on a poster.
GD: Who's your favorite fictional character (from a TV show, growing up, etc.)?
TC: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I used to dress up as Michelangelo for Halloween. They were awesome.
GD: If you could have dinner with four people from history (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
TC: Michael Jordan ? because he is one of the best athletes to ever walk on this earth. Leonidas ? I would love to see Sparta and Spartan warriors in training and combat. Aristotle, Plato or Socrates, whichever one would be the most interesting to talk to. I'm really curious how their brains functioned and if they would confuse me. Nostradamus ? he predicts that the world will end in 2012 and I would like to know how he came up with that number. The number one person I would talk to would be Jesus Christ ? I am convinced that he existed even though many people think otherwise. I think it would be quite amazing to speak to the son of God! I know that was five people and I could keep going but I'll spare everyone the time.
GD: What's your best non-athletic talent?
TC: Relaxing, being lazy and wasting time ? pretty much everyone on the weekends.
GD: What is your nickname?
TC: Toemz, Tom, Tommy, T, Tom C, Toe-Mac Daddy, Pudzian, that should cover it.
GD: What's your favorite part of practice and why?
TC: Sitting in the locker room and listening to and watching the things that go on. Oh, some of Coach Rennie's quotes are really good too (“Predictably Unpredictable”, “The guy with the ball is the King”, “Every game takes on a life of its own”).
