DURHAM, N.C. ? Fritz Woelfel recently sat down with GoDuke.com for his senior profile. Fritz is a goalkeeper on the Duke men's soccer team. Read on to find about his favorite music, what he likes about practice, what his plans after graduation are, plus much more.
GoDuke.com: What is your nickname?
Fritz Woelfel: Fred, Freddy, Fratz and Big Dog.
GD: Who's had the most impact on your life and why?
FW: My family has had the most impact on my life. They have given me guidance, courage and support and I do not know what I would have done without them.
GD: What is your favorite professional team?
FW: My favorite professional sports team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. I watch every game on TV and attend every game possible when in Pittsburgh.
GD: What's your best non-athletic talent?
FW: I think it would be a three-way tie between juggling, playing the piano and chess.
GD: What are you planning on doing after graduation?
FW: I hope to relax for a month before starting analyst training at Morgan Stanley. I will be working in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group within the Investment Banking Division.
GD: What's your favorite TV show?
FW: My favorite TV show is Mad Money with Jim Cramer. I follow the stock market thoroughly and enjoy hearing his stock tips and investor advice.
GD: What's your favorite part of practice and why?
FW: Hands down, the best part of practice would have to be Gladiator Games. The games are consistently competitive and always demand the best performance from every player.
GD: What's your favorite book?
FW: Atlas Shrugged is my favorite book. It discusses the role of the mind in man's existence and also discusses the morality of rational self-interest.
GD: What is your dream job?
FW: My dream job is to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company. I would also love to start my own company and build it from the ground up.
GD: What's your favorite sport, other than your own, to watch on TV?
FW: I enjoy watching college basketball. I played basketball in high school and continue to have a passion for the game.
GD: Who is your favorite professional player in your sport?
FW: My favorite player was Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel for Manchester United, but he retired in May 2003. As a result, I have transferred my loyalties to his son, Kasper Schmeichel, who is the goalkeeper for Manchester City.
GD: What's the last non-school related book you read?
FW: I recently read The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which is essentially the history of the 20th century examined through the perspective of the oil industry.
GD: What's the best concert you've ever attended?
FW: The best concert I ever attended was the Toby Keith concert on the Fourth of July in Pittsburgh. I am a big fan of country western music.
GD: What are your favorite movies?
FW: Wall Street and Good Will Hunting.
GD: Who are your favorite musical artists?
FW: Dave Matthews Band and Toby Keith.
