DURHAM, N.C. ? The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) released the bracket for the 2007 ACC Women's Soccer Championship on Monday with the Blue Devils seeded seventh and will go up against second-seeded Wake Forest on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The championship will be played at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Duke closed the regular season on Saturday with a 1-0 loss at 25th-ranked Clemson to finish with an 8-4-6 overall and 3-3-4 league mark. Wake Forest is currently 22nd in the Soccer America poll released on Monday and features an 11-5-3, 6-2-2 ACC mark. The Demon Deacons and Florida State tied for second in the ACC standings but Wake Forest won the tiebreaker.
Earlier this season, Duke and Wake Forest tied, 1-1, in Winston-Salem, N.C., as Blue Devil sophomore CJ Ludemann registered the game-tying goal in the 78th minute. In the overall series, Duke leads with an 11-4-2 mark.
The last time the Blue Devils and Demon Deacons faced each other in the ACC Tournament was in 2004 as Duke won 3-0 in the quarterfinals. In 1997, the Blue Devils advanced past the quarterfinals against WFU with a 4-3 win in penalty kicks, after the two squads were knotted at 2-2 through overtime. The other time the two squads faced each other in ACC Tournament action was in 1996 as the seventh-seeded Demon Deacons upset second-seeded Duke, 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
The winner of the Duke/Wake Forest match will advance to the semifinals to face the winner of third-seeded Florida State and sixth-seeded Boston College. The semifinal match will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
