DURHAM, N.C. ? Chante Black of the Duke women's basketball team has been named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Student-Athlete of the Week.
A junior from Winston-Salem, N.C., Black has had two of the best games of her career in the past week. She had a career high of 21 points in the Blue Devils' weekend loss at Penn State, then contributed a game-high 11 points, seven rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots in Duke's Thursday night victory over third-ranked Rutgers, 49-44.
Black, who missed all of last season due to injury, has been Duke's steadiest player in helping her team build a 6-3 record so far. She has scored in double figures in eight straight games and is averaging 13.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks while hitting 50 percent of her shots.
Black and the Blue Devils return to action on Saturday when they travel to Madison Square Garden in New York to take on Pittsburgh in the Maggie Dixon Classic.
