No. 23 Duke Picks Up 7-0 Shutout Over Princeton

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 23-ranked Blue Devil women's tennis team shut out 60th-ranked Princeton on Saturday afternoon at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Duke improves to 7-3 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 6-3.
Duke swept the doubles point, as the 36th-ranked Blue Devil duo of senior Daniela Bercek and sophomore Melissa Mang defeated Melissa Saiontz and Ivana King, 8-0, Jessi Robinson and Elizabeth Plotkin posted an 8-1 victory over Darcy Robinson and Joanna Roth and Tory Zawacki and Amanda Granson defeated Blakely Ashley and Sarah Huah, 8-3.
In singles action, Zawacki first came away with a win, defeating Ashley, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot to put Duke ahead, 2-0. No. 99-ranked Plotkin then recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Robertson at No. 3 to increase the Blue Devils' lead to 3-0. Robinson then clinched the victory for Duke with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Roth at No. 6.
Granson defeated Huah, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4, before Bercek defeated 78th-ranked Saiontz, 1-6, 6-1 (1-0), and 108th-ranked Mang defeated King, 5-7, 6-3 (1-0) at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, to close out the match and make the final score 7-0 in favor of Duke.
The Blue Devils took two of three matches in San Diego during their spring trip, defeating No. 19 Tennessee and Princeton, and falling to second-ranked Notre Dame.
“We're really happy with this trip, especially with our doubles play at number one,” said Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth. “We need to work on believing that we can be one of the top teams in the country. We have four matches in three weeks coming up against top-10 teams and we really need to focus on the next few weeks as we get into conference play.”
Duke will next travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., where the Blue Devils will take on Boston College in their third ACC match of the year. Duke is 2-0 versus conference opponents on the season.
