WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Freshman Reka Zsilinszka advanced to the Singles Flight B championship match on Saturday at the 15th Annual William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., while junior Melissa Mang remains in back draw singles action in Flight A, and the Duke duo of sophomore Amanda Granson and junior Jessi Robinson are still in action in the Doubles Flight A consolation bracket.
Zsilinszka, the No. 2 seed in Flight B, defeated Mayori Franco of Arkansas, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to the title match, which will take place on Sunday at 11:15 a.m., as the freshman takes on Klaudyna Kasztelaniec of William & Mary.
Mang will play in the final match of the Flight A consolation bracket on Sunday at 9:30 a.m., as the junior defeated teammate Granson, 6-4, 6-3, to advance. Third-seeded Katarina Zoricic of William & Mary will be Mang's opponent for the title.
Granson and Robinson posted an 8-3 victory over King and Saiontz of Princeton to advance to the back draw finals of Doubles Flight A. The duo will face Michal Amir and Husche of Maryland at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
In main draw doubles competition, the No. 2-seeded duo of Mang and Zsilinszka posted an 8-4 victory over Maggie Yahner and Pereira of Virginia, but fell to the third-seeded tandem of Misevicute and Kaluder of Arkansas, 8-5, in Flight A semifinal action.
In Flight B, Plotkin and Zawacki defeated Lara Alexander and Hampton Williams of Virginia, 8-4, to advance to the semifinals, but then fell to Cash and Sullivan of Boston College, 8-6.
The back draw of Singles Flight A saw Robinson fall to Maria Anisimova of Penn, 6-3, 7-5.
In the Flight A winner's bracket back draw, sophomore Elizabeth Plotkin defeated Charleen Haarhoff of Old Dominion, 7-6 (2), 6-3. Plotkin will face top-seeded Tatsiana Uvarova of VCU on Sunday at 9:15 a.m.
Senior Tory Zawacki defeated Viktoria Konstantinova of VCU, 7-5, 6-2, in Flight B winner's bracket consolation action, and will square off against Lindsey Pereira of Virginia on Sunday at 9:15 a.m.
The William & Mary Women's Tennis Invitational will run from Sept. 14-16. Results will be updated throughout the day and a final bracket will be posted at the conclusion of each day's matches at www.tribeathletics.com.
