WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Freshman Reka Zsilinszka won the Singles Flight B title on Sunday at the 15th Annual William & Mary Invitational, while the Duke duo of sophomore Amanda Granson and junior Jessi Robinson won in the Doubles Flight A consolation finals and the Blue Devil tandem of sophomore Elizabeth Plotkin and senior Tory Zawacki took third place in the Doubles Flight B bracket.
Zsilinszka, the No. 2 seed in Flight B, posted a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Klaudyna Kasztelaniec of William & Mary to take home the title. In her first collegiate tournament, Zsilinszka gave up just eight games in four matches, including giving up a single game in her first two outtings.
Granson and Robinson cruised to an 8-1 victory over Michal Amir and Husche of Maryland in the back draw finals of Doubles Flight A, while in the third-place match of the main draw of the same bracket, the No. 2-seeded tandem of Zsilinszka and junior Melissa Mang fell to top-seeded Nanar Airapetian and Mayori Franco of Arkansas, 8-6.
In Flight B doubles play, Plotkin and Zawacki teamed up to post a tight 9-8 (5) win over Klaudyna Kasztelaniec and Barbara Zidek of William & Mary in the third-place match of the main draw.
In singles action, Mang fell to Katarina Zoricic of William & Mary, 6-1, 6-4, in the Flight A consolation finals, while Plotkin took the fifth-place match in the main draw of Flight A, as top-seeded Tatsiana Uvarova of VCU withdrew from the contest.
Zawacki fell to Lindsey Pereira of Virginia in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) in the fifth-place match of Singles Flight B.
Duke will be in action next at the Riviera/All-American Championships, held Sept. 29-Oct. 7 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
