DURHAM, N.C.?For the 22nd time in history and for the fifth consecutive season, the Duke University men's soccer team earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils received an at-large bid and will host UNC Greensboro of the Southern Conference in a first round contest on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
Tickets to the contest are available for $7 for adults and $5 for students/seniors, and $1 for kids under five. Live statistics will be available for the contest with a link provided on www.GoDuke.com.
Duke and UNC Greensboro will battle for the 15th time with the Blue Devils holding a commanding 12-2-0 all-time lead in the series. The two squads met in an exhibition match in August with the Spartans coming away with a 1-0 victory. This marks the first meeting in the NCAA Tournament between the two squads.
The Blue Devils earned the at-large bid based on its 10-7-2 overall record and 3-3-2 mark in the ACC. They are coming off a loss to ACC Tournament runner-up Virginia in the quarterfinal round. Duke posted a 2-0 record against Southern Conference Opponents this season, including a 2-0 win over regular season-champion Elon.
UNC Greensboro captured the Southern Conference Tournament Championship to win the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The seventh-seeded Spartans beat No. 5 seed College of Charleston 2-1 in the title tilt. The championship is UNC Greensboro's third league title in the past four seasons.
The winner of the game between Duke and UNC Greensboro advances to the second round and will play Loyola (Md.) on Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. The Greyhounds are the ninth seed in the tournament.
The men's soccer bracket features 48 teams from around the nation with the top 16 seeds earning a first-round bye. Duke was one of 26 teams to win an at-large invitation to the tournament after the 26 conference championship won the automatic bid.
