COLUMBIA, S.C. ? The Blue Devils men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed preliminary competition for day two at the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina's Carolina Natatorium, the men advancing on 21 performances to tonight's finals and the women seeing 20 qualifying marks.
After day one, the women were in second place and the men in third out of seven teams. The women have a team score of 226.5, behind only North Carolina (370). The Blue Devils lead the host Gamecocks (208), East Carolina (161.5), Syracuse (107), Charleston (12), and Lenoir Rhyne (0). The men sit behind the Tar Heels (380.5) and South Carolina (226.5), and lead Syracuse (109), ECU (98), and Charleston (43) as 12 events are final at this point.
In this morning's prelims, the women saw Shannon Beall take first in the 100 butterfly with a season-best performance of 54.38 and a personal record in the event. Nick Garvy took second in the 100 fly for the men, clocking a Duke season-best time of 49.27.
Ashley Twichell came in second for the Blue Devils in the 200 freestyle, setting a season-best 1:51.12, while Meredith Bannon was second in the 100 breaststroke in a season-best 1:04.68. Meghan Dwyer was third in the 100 backstroke in a season-best 56.29.

The meet will conclude tomorrow, Nov. 22, with the preliminary competition again beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals set for 6 p.m. The team scores will be calculated by tallying each day's results.
