COLUMBIA, S.C. ? The Duke men's swimming and diving team will advance on 17 performances to tonight's finals and the women 16, as both teams are set for the final night of competition at the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina.
Today's preliminary round saw Duke place first in four events ? the 200 women's backstroke (Meghan Dwyer: 2:00.70), the men's 200 backstroke (Spencer Booth: 1:48.50), the women's 200 breast stroke (Meredith Bannon: 2:18.67), and the women's 200 butterfly (Shannon Beall: 2:01.69).
Both squads are in third place through two days of the invitational, both trailing North Carolina and South Carolina. The men have a team score of 483 after two days. The women sit at 512.5 with one day left in the seven-team field.
