DURHAM, N.C.?The Duke University men's lacrosse team will hold its three annual summer camps in 2009, with registration for all sessions starting on Jan. 1, online at www.GoDuke.com. The Blue Devils will host an evening commuter camp, an overnight instructional camp, and a team instructional camp.
Session I, the evening commuter camp, is scheduled for June 10-13 and runs each evening from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. The fee for the four-day session is $205 and is available for all boys between ages eight and 17. All skills levels are invited and beginners are encouraged to attend. Campers will receive individual instruction from the Duke staff on game fundamentals and the session also includes drill work, games, and team competition.
Session II is an overnight instructional camp running from June 26-29. The fee is $550 and there is a team discount available for those bring 10-or-more of a team. Check in begins at 3 p.m. on June 26 and the camp closes at 1 p.m., on June 29. The overnight instructional camp is geared towards players of all skill levels for those entering grades 7-12 as well as post graduates as of September 2008.
The camp combines rigorous lacrosse training from an elite staff with a fun-filled residential experience. There is a limited amount of space in the camp. For the seventh and eighth grade slot there are spaces for 15 attackmen, 24 midfielders, 15 defensemen, and six goalies. In the ninth through 12th grade group there are openings for 72 attackmen, 108 midfielders, 84 defensemen, and 24 goalies.
Within Session II is the Varsity Elite division for those entering 11th, 12th, or postgraduate years. The division is offered as a collegiate developmental program and will include sessions dedicated to strength and conditioning as well as college recruiting.
Session III is a team instructional camp spanning June 30-July 3. The fee is $480 for the four-day event. The team instructional camp is available for up to six junior varsity teams and six varsity teams. It is a truly unique experience because it is not just another tournament weekend. In addition to the opportunity to compete against other top high school and club lacrosse programs, campers also will have sessions dedicated to improving their skills. Campers will receive individual instruction from the Blue Devils coaching staff and players.
The staff for the 2009 summer camps features men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski along with assistant coaches Chris Gabrielli, and Ron Caputo. Current and former Blue Devil players also will be at the camps, teaching clinics, giving demonstrations, and coaching scrimmages.
Duke lacrosse has experienced great success over the past 12 years. The Blue Devils earned two national championship game appearances, advanced to the NCAA Tournament Semifinals four times, and the NCAA Tournament 12 different times.
In an effort to assist campers with travel arrangements, World Tek (1-800-243-1800) offers great rates for campers flying to and from the Raleigh/Durham airport. There will be a camp shutter service from the airport to the Duke campus for an $80 fee. A registration form for this service will be included in your confirmation packet.
Registration is simple for those who would like to attend. Log on to the men's lacrosse page on www.GoDuke.com and scroll down under the more news section and click on camps. That will take you to a secure site where you can register for any of the three sessions.
