DURHAM, N.C. - The 10th-ranked Duke women's tennis team picked up its second straight shutout victory on Friday evening with a 7-0 triumph over 74th-ranked Boston College at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 7-1 (2-0 ACC) on the year while the Eagles fall to 7-2 (0-1 ACC).
Duke swept the doubles point to go ahead 1-0, as the third-ranked duo of junior Melissa Mang and sophomore Amanda Granson defeated Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov, 8-2, at the top spot before senior Tory Zawacki and junior Jessi Robinson combined for an 8-2 win over Lana Krasnopolsky and Gia Nafarreteat No. 3 to clinch the point for the Blue Devils.
Action at No. 2 doubles saw the freshman tandem of Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka post an 8-3 win over Katherine Atwell and Alina Sullivan.
The Blue Devils then dominated singles play, taking each match in straight sets, including three 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Robinson was the first to win a singles match as she defeated Jaqueline Mabatah, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 position to give Duke a 2-0 advantage. Mang then defeated Atwell, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 before Granson posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sullivan at No. 5 to clinch the win for the Blue Devils.
Fourteenth-ranked Nze defeated Cherkasov, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 position, 16th-ranked Zsilinszka posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cash at No. 3 and Iyer recorded a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Krasnolpolsky at the top slot to account for the final score.
Duke will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, next week over spring break as the Blue Devils take on Hawaii (March 13) and Tennessee (March 15). The Blue Devils will then return home for three straight matches, facing a trio of ACC foes in five days.
