Opening Statement
"It was just a great day to get out of practice and get out and play a little bit in a game-like atmosphere. The guys did a great job hustling down the floor. I thought we fought hard, shared the ball well, and were really sharp at key times. It's too bad we had 19 turnovers though, because we had four at the half, so the second half we picked up some turnovers. We're looking to better handle that basketball and really find each other. I thought [Bridgette] had some excellent leadership especially in the rebounding as well as in her attack, and [Jasmine] as well. It was pretty balanced throughout. I really thought we got better today, it was a fun day, putting on the uniforms and getting a game feel."
On how this team compares to her first two in regards to readiness entering the season:
"It's just so hard to compare teams. I think this team has had the best summer that we've ever had. So I would attribute a readiness to the summer preparation and time and energy that the teammates put in. I think we had the best summer, and that leads to the best readiness."
On the freshmen:
"Allison [Vernerey]'s tough. I think her best attribute is her pursuit of the ball whether she's on offense or defense, she hustles and plays very hard, and is very effective. [Alexis Rogers] is a competitor, and always finds interesting things to do, tipping balls away. Six steals for a freshman-the first time you hit the floor at Cameron-just the way her timing, her confidence, I thought that was kind of interesting about Lex. They both played tough, very good."
Duke Senior Bridgette Mitchell
"We were fighting through fatigue, but no one shows it. That's a rule: you don't show that you're tired. I think by making that emphasis, everyone just felt uplifted by encouraging each other."
